Kings start season with a split squad and a split win

The first pre-season Kings games were on last night. We split our team along with the Phoenix Coyotes and played each other. Half the team at Staples and the other half at jobbing.com in Phoenix. Besides a split team, we split the wins. So our first official two pre-season games put us at 1-1.

Pre-season games are important. Not only because it gives the players time to get used to playing with each other, but also we see how the rookies are doing. Pre-season is where we see who will get cut and put back down to the junior teams. the Kings made a few roster cuts already yesterday and also released a few players all together.

Two rookie standouts yesterday were Tyler Toffoli and Andrei Loktionov. Both are offense and Toffoli scored last night. Loktionov played great. I just love this kid. He is so focused. I’d put him on the 3rd line center instead of Stoll. I mean I like Stoll, and no one can face off better, but I think its time for Lokti to get his chance.

Voynov in D was great yesterday too. I think he really wants to be there. And if the Kings can’t get the contract fixed with Doughty, Voynov could really help out. Of course we would rather see Drew there – but its nice to have a fall back.

Looking at how the teams mesh and how the rookies play will give us a little look into the future season. I think we all know this year’s team is going for it. We looked a little rough last night to me and also had a glaring hole in D. But besides that, we looked pretty dang good!

So let’s get some more practice, get Drew signed and go all the way!

Go! Kings! Go!
