This is the fourth and final meeting this season with Colorado. The Avalanche have 62 pts to our 66 and is close behind us in 11th place to our 8th. We moved back up into the top 8 with that 1 pt from the tie in regulation last night. Oh, last night, last night, how I wish it were different! We can’t score worth crap and then we decide to break out and lose 5-4 to Phoenix. You know what? As we have said, unfortunately, many times this season – Put it away. Just forget it, throw it out the window, kill the memories.
Calling out Kopitar and Brown in public may have helped a bit with the team but let’s look at what it brought us. Kopi tried and tried and had nothing. I definately blame him for that. Brownie looked good all night, I attribute that to feeling better after this flu had knocked him out for the past week or so. But what about the times before that? What about Anze not bringing it like he should for a 6.8 million dollar player? You know what I have to say about that? WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE? Yeah, we have other players on this team. And they all are sucking butt right now. I understand we need to ask our top players to step up. What about Richards? Or Penner? or Stoll? I may just be a homer right now, but I’m just not ready to give up on Kopitar, Brown or even Richards quite yet. I’m not at the point of throwing them away in a trade. Just not yet.
If we make the playoffs at all I will not be suprised. I think they can do it and probably will end up in 8th or 7th place. We look like that kind of team. Pretty much a copy of last season but our slumps are lower and our highs higher. But either way, not a winner yet. I still support a trade by the deadline but i’m perfectly happy if we wait for after the season.
Colorado lost 5-1 in Winnipeg on Sunday, and they will have new trade Downie in the lineup tonight. Colorado acquired forward Steve Downie from Tampa Bay on Tuesday in a three-way deal that sent defenseman Kyle Quincey to Detroit. Downie has 12 goals and 28 points. This should help the Avalanche with their scoring and may propel them to playoff contention before the end of the season. As for tonight, Steve Duchene is back in their linup and Duchene has always been a thorn in the King’s side. In fact all of the Colorado team has this year as they have beaten us 3 of the 4 times we have played so far this season. No sweep tonight!
A Few Facts:
- Kings are at 41.3% chance of making the playoffs as of noon pst.
- LA is still among the best in the NHL at killing penalties with an 86.5%
- Lotki has 3 goals in his last 5 games
- The Kings won 36 of 58 faceoffs
Pretty sure Quick is in goal tonight but we will have to wait and see. I think Sutter keeps him in to give him a mental edge. I’d love to see Bernier play though. Quick needs a break and Bernier needs a few games!
